Did you know that Grays Ferry was named after George Gray? His ferry company operated the Lower Ferry, or Gray’s Ferry, in the mid-18th century. The family owned land on either side of the Schuylkill River and maintained a floating bridge across the river. Prior to the arrival of Europeans, the land was stewarded by the Lenape people for thousands of years.
This map contains points from the past 110 years of Grays Ferry history. These points have been contributed by residents and former residents. Some points contain photos from historical archive sources, like libraries and government records.
